Network Awarded $258K for Housing Counseling Efforts
NJ to receive $482K in federal grants

6/22/2016

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) $257,837 to support the housing counseling services of nine nonprofit subgrantee organizations. The funds will help families and individuals with their housing needs and to prevent future foreclosures. On the award, Network President and Chief Executive Officer Staci Berger issued the following statement:

“We thank the Department, the Obama Administration, and our federal elected officials for making housing counseling a priority. New Jersey continues to lead the nation in foreclosures and many of our homeowners and renters are struggling to stay in their homes. Housing counselors are instrumental in helping individuals gain financial freedom.

“Our affiliate organizations have housing counselors who are trained and experienced. These funds, which were announced by HUD Secretary Julian Castro at the White House celebration this morning, will allow housing counselors to reach more residents and provide them with quality services.”

As a housing counseling intermediary, the Network provides pass-through housing counseling program funding to its network of qualified sub-grantee affiliate organizations which deliver housing counseling services throughout New Jersey. In this capacity, the Network provides administrative oversight around providing excellence of services, technical assistance, reporting, and training.
