Fair Share Housing Development Development Director Cherry Hill/Mount Laurel, New Jersey (Philadelphia area) Fair Share Housing Development, Inc. (FSHD) is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Development Director. FSHD is a non-profit housing and social services provider that seeks to reduce the racial and economic segregation of the State of New Jersey through development of affordable housing in high-opportunity communities, pursuant to the Mount Laurel doctrine which requires that every town in New Jersey provide its fair share of affordable housing. The Development Director will oversee all aspects of fundraising from foundations, corporate donors, and individual donors for FSHD’s developments and operations. I. About FSHD FSHD was founded in 1986 by Peter J. O’Connor, an attorney who began to develop and manage affordable housing after having been co-counsel to the successful plaintiffs in the landmark Mount Laurel cases. One of the largest CDC's in South Jersey, FSHD develops and manages affordable housing developments in urban and suburban communities. FSHD has developed or now has in its development pipeline over 1100 units of affordable housing in many of South Jersey’s most desirable communities. The Director’s main job will be to facilitate the completion of the developments in the pipeline and identify additional future development prospects. II. Position Responsibilities The position will involve: -Developing and overseeing an individual donor network for FSHD under the newly formed “Friends of Fair Share Housing,” drawing on the extensive networks of contacts in New Jersey and nationally that FSHD has developed, including overseeing donor events and soliciting contributions online (about 40% of position). -Writing grants for foundations for operating support for FSHD’s operations that are not supported by direct development costs, including provision of educational and social services to residents of its developments and public policy activities related to the expansion of affordable housing opportunities in high-opportunity communities in New Jersey, and for development costs of community facilities such as education and recreation centers (about 35% of position). -Soliciting corporate donations for FSHD, mainly from banks and developers with whom FSHD has relationships (about 20% of position). -Overseeing development of and maintaining FSHD print and online promotional materials, including website (about 5% of position). III. Qualifications: A. Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or other certification from a recognized institution in business or fundraising work preferred. B. Experience: At least three years experience of direct responsibility in fundraising required, preferably in the promotion of social justice causes. Experience in grant writing, managing individual and corporate donor relationships, and donor events required. Knowledge of New Jersey foundations and corporate donors preferred but not required. C. Abilities: Qualified applications will possess the following: • Exhibited commitment to social justice. • Strong written and oral communication skills. • Strong grant writing skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interface with and manage donor networks through personal contacts and online solicitation. • Ability to plan successful donor events. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision • Ability to oversee development of promotional materials in various print and digital media.
