Homeless Solutions starts 'green' building in Washington Twp.

WASHINGTON TWP. — With one high-efficiency, multi-unit housing project under its belt, Homeless Solutions Inc. broke ground Thursday on a second project that will raise the green energy quotient higher.
The project is a 10-unit, three-building affordable housing development that is designed to reach LEED Platinum certification, the first such New Jersey multi-unit affordable housing development to reach that status.

Affordable housing officials: Christie budget plans leave future unclear

Local officials say it's not clear affordable housing and special-needs housing projects will be able to go forward in coming years, as Gov. Chris Christie is planning majors cuts to the trust fund that supports them.
Gov. Chris Christie has proposed reducing the commitment to the state's affordable housing trust fund in 2011 by $32 million to help balance the state budget. The funds for the affordable housing trust fund are collected through a 2.5 percent real estate transfer fee collected when property sales are recorded.
