Statement from NJ Community Development Association on State Treasurer Appointment

12/13/2017

On the announcement of Governor-elect Phil Murphy’s nomination of Assemblywoman Elizabeth Muoio (D-Mercer) to become New Jersey’s next state treasure, Housing and Community Development Network of NJ (the Network) President and Chief Executive Officer Staci Berger issued the following statement:

“We applaud Governor-elect Murphy on his pick for state treasurer. Overseeing the state budget is a monumental task that Asw. Muoio is extremely well-suited to manage. Asw. Muoio, who has been a champion of healthy homes and communities, will be responsible for the handling of funds important to the community development sector, including the funds collected through the sale of paint to support childhood lead poisoning prevention. The Lead Hazard Control Assistance Fund is an essential tool to help address this public health crisis, an entirely preventable condition that causes irreversible brain damage in our children. She has the proven leadership and tenacity to make sure all of the funds collected are appropriated. We look forward to working with her in her new role.”
