Recovery Effort Will Be Stronger by Supporting Housing Counseling, Foreclosure Prevention and Other Critical Needs, says Network Suggestions for improving Sandy rebuilding in presidential task force report 8/19/2013 Nearing the one year anniversary of Sandy's arrival, the federally appointed Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force has presented President Obama with an analysis of the disaster recovery process to date and recommendations for moving forward. On the Task Force’s efforts, Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (“the Network”) Executive Director Staci Berger issued the following statement: "The Network and our members are honored to be part of the Task Force's discussions regarding the rebuilding strategy report. The devastation left behind by Sandy is unprecedented and required an 'all hands on deck' approach which the Obama administration has taken. "We appreciate the leadership and willingness of our federal partners to ask for and listen to feedback from affected families and the community groups supporting them through this recovery. This report incorporates ideas to make New Jersey’s Sandy rebuilding effort, and future disaster recovery plans more efficient and effective by: providing more resources for housing counseling, addressing foreclosure risks, and allowing for increased public input. "The struggle to get New Jersey back, and better than ever, is far from over. We look forward to seeing these recommendations used to help New Jersey’s families and communities rebuild fairly and more sustainably for a better future.” The Housing and Community Development Network supports New Jersey’s community development sector, collaborating with more than 250 members including community development corporations and other organizations to create affordable homes, expand economic opportunities, and build strong communities.
