Sandy Survivors Calls for Reform Remain Ignored, says Network
Senate attempt to override Sandy “Bill of Rights” conditional veto fails

6/23/2014

A vote to override Governor Christie’s conditional veto of the Sandy “Bill of Rights” failed to pass in the New Jersey Senate today. On the vote, Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey President and CEO Staci Berger issued the following statement:

“It’s very disappointing the veto override attempt failed. Senators who once supported the Sandy ‘Bill of Rights’ and then changed their position, have done a disservice to everyone who has been burdened by the recovery process. They know problems exist and yet they choose to allow a broken system to remain in place.

“All the points addressed in this bill originated from the overwhelming need for transparency and accountability. The concerns voiced only after the governor’s conditional veto have been unjustified. Sadly, we’re forced to wait longer for much needed reforms to Sandy recovery.”

The Housing and Community Development Network supports New Jersey’s community development sector, collaborating with more than 250 members including community development corporations and other organizations to create affordable homes, expand economic opportunities, and build strong communities.
