Legislative Day 2018
"Community Development at the Capitol"

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Legislative Day 2018! Together, we met with over 38 legislators and staff members to urge their support for preserving the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) in the state budget. We reminded legislators that while the AHTF is intended for the creation of affordable homes, the proposed state budget diverts those funds.

According to a new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll, 79 percent of New Jersey residents say the Affordable Housing Trust Fund should be used solely for its intended purpose. Unveiled at Legislative Day, the poll found that almost all residents believe the cost of housing is a “very” serious (51 percent) or “somewhat” (35 percent) serious problem. In addition to fully funding the AHTF, we urged legislators to support extending Emergency Assistance benefits. We're pleased to share that our efforts were a success with the Senate voting unanimously in favor of two bills, sending them to the Assembly for consideration.
