LETTER: How could affordability summit not address housing?

I cannot believe that in the Sept. 19 article entitled “Making Jersey more affordable,” the topic of housing was not mentioned once. It is inconceivable that at Opportunity NJ’s Affordability Summit 2017 the subject of housing affordability was not included. What are these folks thinking?

The high cost of housing in New Jersey and the absence of true choice in many communities for those with less than six-figure incomes is a key factor that must be considered in any plan to make the state more affordable. Candidates seeking our vote in November, including Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, would be wise to consider this point and include it in their platform for improving our state.

The Housing and Community Development Network of NJ has a game plan entitled “Building A Thriving NJ.” It addresses the issue of using budgeted funds for their designated purpose rather than diverting them to other projects. All state-level candidates, as well as the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce, should seriously consider this plan.

Voters should hold office seekers accountable for their position on housing affordability.
