Gov. Murphy Announces New Protections and Resources for Homeowners and Renters Affected by COVID-19 4/24/2020 Governor Murphy today announced new measures and resources for renters and homeowners impacted by the coronavirus. The Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) applauded the announcement in a statement by Chief Executive Officer Staci Berger: “The Network along with our members and allies continue to advocate for expanded protections for lower income residents and the organizations that serve them. We applaud Governor Murphy’s announcement today. These measures move NJ in the right direction, building on the steps the governor and the legislature have taken for renters and homeowners who are being hurt by the economic fallout of this pandemic. “Combined with prior provisions, like the moratorium on evictions, foreclosures, and utility shutoffs as well as expansion of emergency assistance, limiting rent increases for NJ Housing Mortgage and Finance Agency properties and the mortgage forbearance program, today’s announcements can help our stay home and stay healthy during this crisis and going forward. We will continue to work with the governor and the legislature to advance policies that prevent a health crisis from becoming a housing crisis.” Newly announced measures and resources for renters and homeowners impacted by the coronavirus, include:
