Protect Renters and Homeowners:
Support A4226 this Tuesday!
On Tuesday, June 16 at 1pm, the Assembly Housing Committee will hold a hearing for an important rent relief and mortgage forbearance bill, A4226, that will protect New Jerseyans from eviction during and after the pandemic. It is critical that the Committee hears your voice.

The Network is working with Asw. Britnee Timberlake of East Orange and a consortium of housing advocates, Compassionate NJ on rent relief and mortgage forbearance legislation that would codify many of the elements of Gov. Murphy's Executive Order 106 which protects New Jerseyans from eviction and foreclosure during the pandemic.
This bill contains the following principles that we have advocated to be included in any housing relief legislation. A4226:
- Provides residential mortgage forbearance for up to 180 days;
- Provides tenants with eviction protection for up to 60 days following the end of a public health/state of emergency;
- Protects tenants and homeowners from forbearance/rent relief fees and/or negative credit reporting;
- Protects tenants from being placed on a tenant blacklist for non-payment;
- Establishes repayment guidelines for tenants and landlords;
- Requires banks to notify homeowners of HUD-certified housing counseling options.
