Details of Federal COVID Housing Relief

Congressional leaders reached a deal this week on an emergency COVID-19 relief bill that includes $25 billion in emergency rental assistance and an extension of the CDC’s federal eviction moratorium through January 31, among other things. For details on the housing provisions in the COVID-19 relief bill, click here for a fact sheet and here for an estimate of state/territory allocations for the $25 billion in emergency rental assistance from our national partner, the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC).

Congress has also released a final bill to fund affordable homes and community development programs at HUD and the USDA as part of a larger omnibus package for fiscal year (FY) 2021. The spending bill provides HUD $49.6 billion - more than $12.4 billion above the president’s request.

For more details on the housing provisions of the FY21 spending bill, see NLIHC’s full analysis and updated budget chart.

Finally, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has authorized reimbursement for non-congregate shelter through the duration of the COVID-19 emergency. Details coming soon!
