Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey (the Network) President and CEO Staci Berger issued the following statement on the passing of Dwayne Middleton, manager of special projects for the City of Newark’s Office of Affordability and Sustainable Housing:

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our colleague and good friend Dwayne Middleton. I have had the honor of working with him over the last four years on the City of Newark's affordable housing efforts and on Mayor Ras J. Baraka’s Equitable Growth Advisory Commission. Our friendship, however, spans over three decades, going back to our early days as organizers on campus at Rutgers University.

“Dwayne’s contributions to the City of Newark will live on the lives of the families who have been able to gain access to a safe, affordable home. His passing is a tremendous loss for the city and on behalf of the entire Network staff and Board of Directors, we extend our deepest condolences to the Middleton family, his colleagues at the Economic and Housing Development Department and all who were lucky enough to know him.”
