HUD Secretary Donovan promotes rebuilding strategy in NJ

8/20/2013

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan will make an appearance in New Jersey today with Governor Chris Christie to promote the release of the Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force's Rebuilding Strategy. Ahead of the event, Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey Executive Director Staci Berger issued the following statement:

"We were very pleased to see the Task Force take into consideration feedback from affected families and the community groups supporting them through this recovery. We urge Governor Christie to do the same.

"Providing more resources for housing counseling, addressing foreclosure risks, and allowing for increased public input are just a few key ideas incorporated into the report that are essential to any long-term planning. We hope that the governor's appearance with the secretary today means he supports the report and its recommendations.

"Efficient and effective rebuilding in New Jersey is contingent on implementation of the ideas in the Task Force's report. We will have a successful resurgence of our Sandy devastated communities but only if this report is put to use and not left to collect dust."

The Housing and Community Development Network supports New Jersey’s community development sector, collaborating with more than 250 members including community development corporations and other organizations to create affordable homes, expand economic opportunities, and build strong communities.
